You can call me Avi

I'm at Posterous HQ! Little Avi is home :)

I'm in San Francisco for the winter break to meet a lot of friends. Guess who is based a half mile from where I'm putting up? =D I had lunch with the Posterous bunch, helped assemble some new furniture, followed by this great Christmas cake. These guys are just awesome. I'm going to be in town for a good couple of weeks so multiple visits here are guaranteed. So psyched!

You Can't Do What You Want By Doing Something Else

One observation set me back. There are lots of people who wanted to do one thing but then got "practical" and did something else "first." The idea was that they'd be successful and sock away money doing the practical thing, and after that they could go back to the thing they loved. Bronson was sure that, among the hundreds of people that he interviewed, someone would actually have been successful with this strategy. It sounds so reasonable, after all.

But he encountered exactly zero people who pulled it off. Everyone who tried got sucked into the "practical" career and were never able to extract themselves from it. Too comfortable, too many expectations from friends and family, too easy just to keep doing what you're doing.

I cannot begin to explain how much I needed to read this. It’s like this article was written just for me. This changes perspectives for me. This article addresses the eternal question – “Should I really go for it?” This article is about building the gumption to leave what you’re doing and change your life. Make it what you want it to be. Because if you don’t make it change, it won’t change.

It’s hard. It’s hard to consciously bring yourself to a point where uncertainty rules your life. But you have to look at people around you who’ve done that and take inspiration. Then make that inspiration work for you. Despite all the resistance that will come along the way. That’s what I’m trying to do. This article goes on to say:

There's a quote that appears again and again in various forms: "close one door, another opens." It seems like magical thinking until you see it happen. And it only happens when you don't leave the door partially open, but instead firmly close it. For some reason, being certain that you're ready to move on does cause some kind of magic to happen, and I don't know why.

This doesn’t mean my life will magically change all of a sudden. It will be a long and hard battle – against my mind. And I will need to keep re-reading this article to remind me of my priorities.

I’ve been fortunate to be reading some really inspiring stuff lately, from people that I hugely admire. I intend to share them with you along with my thoughts on them. For now, do yourself a favor and read this amazing piece of text here.

Good luck.

So I went rock climbing. On real rocks. In the mountains.

And I loved it.

Yeah, it's been a couple weeks since I did this and I had wanted to write about it earlier but, you know, school came in the way.

It was my *first ever* outdoor activity and for that I think I did fairly well. No, I didn't manage to go all the way up the "beginner-level" (my ass!) climb, but half-way up wasn't bad considering the bike ride up Baseline Rd. killed me before I even got to the Gregory Canyon trail head. And I promise you, I could've gone a lot higher had the drizzle not made the rock as slippery as it was. At the end of the day, if you ask me, I was surprised I could lift my weight at all :)

I want to thank my classmate Ryan Mazer and his friends for organizing this awesome outing for us. I totally need to do this again.

I'm hoping for more Boulder awesomeness as my life here continues. I really couldn't be happier. And I promise I'm going to post more often.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Accept that a Googolplex is a Really Big Number - David Walton [fantastic video]

NSFW language, but totally worth it. If I can see something like this at Ignite Boulder 6 this month, I'd have totally got my money's worth.

Watch it.

Boulder has amazing clouds. And amazing sunsets.

I'm going to consolidate all these pictures in a common tag on my blog as well as a single album on my Facebook which I'll very appropriately call 'OMG Boulder'. In fact, this set will include shots of everything that fascinates me about Boulder and probably Colorado in general. These pictures will also be on my photo blog (http://photolog.posterous.com) and will also be linked through my twitter.

Strawberry Swing by Coldplay is probably the MOST creative music video ever made

The song's not ultra special but the video is brilliant! That would've taken thousands of man-hours.

OMG this is EXACTLY why I'm SO psyched about Boulder!

this area has grown from an earthy university town to a true hotbed of innovation. In certain parts of downtown, you can't throw a rock without hitting some startup's offices, and I could barely walk three blocks without bumping into at least one entrepreneur, developer, or designer

I found a link to this article on Brad Feld's blog today and this piece *totally* explains why I came to Boulder, Colorado (more on that in another blog post). As a tech fanatic, startup enthusiast and a budding entrepreneur, it's not hard to see why this place has me so excited. Never mind what I'm saying, just watch this video. No, seriously, watch it!

My turn on the new Bandra-Worli Sea Link (lit up at night)

After an awesome dinner with my buddies from Directi, we all decided to make a trip to the brilliant new Bandra-Worli Sea Link that was thrown open to the public after 9 years of construction work. Given that we were in the last hour of toll-free access, there was bumper-to-bumper traffic until we actually got onto the 5.6 km long, cable-stayed bridge, which is now, undoubtedly, an icon of Mumbai's landscape.

All we could get were these pictures from my cell-phone camera which, surprisingly, turned out quite to my liking :) Thanks for helping with the pics, Ro and Char.

Man, I love Posterous!

Seriously, I don't think I've been so attached to any other product/tool/service/company like I have to Posterous. I'm not here to explain their features or sell their platform (well, not officially at least :), I just think it's the coolest company I've seen on the Internet in years. It feels a bit odd calling them a company since I know of only the 2 co-founders working on it. Yes, I'm a little emotionally attached because I found Posterous at the time that I was looking to find an outlet to express myself, but my blog has now evolved into a lot more - and that's all thanks to Posterous. I'm by no means their most prolific user but Posterous makes me want to blog more. I've got 3 Posterous blogs already and I know that I'm gonna get me some more to talk about other topics (that's when they allow me to have more than 3). I don't often pay for premium services on any website, but I would be more than happy to put my money into their premium services whenever they launch.

The pace at which Posterous has introduced new features since their launch a year back - and the absolute uniqueness and usability of those is seriously impressive. Their latest addition, which allows you to import any or all posts from your existing blogs on any other platform, makes it much easier for people to switch to Posterous. This, along with custom themes which is certainly their next big update, will make the decision to use Posterous as your primary blogging platform a no-brainer.

But more than any of their features, Posterous' trump card is it's co-founders - Garry and Sachin. I have no hesitation in admitting that I am probably one of their biggest fans, both of them. The attitude that they've created Posterous with, the sheer quality of their work, their non-belief in 'beta' rollouts, their humility in accepting feedback and their incomprehensibly quick and accurate email support amazes me. As a startup-lover and an entrepreneur-in-training myself, I must admit that these guys are one of my greatest inspirations, mainly because I have (sort-of) seen their company grow from the beginning (though I would love to get a closer look at the way they work). They're kind enough to share some of their insights and experiences on their own blogs. And to top it all off - both of them are fantastic photographers! :)

Anyway, this is my quick fanboy tribute to the one company I truly admire.

Cheers guys!
