Turn My Poem Into Song

My angel in the darkness
My yellow paper rose
Come into the flickering light
And turn my words to prose

My angel in the shadow
Don't shy away this time
I need to know you're somewhere near
So my prose can turn to rhyme

Oh angel o' my imagination
Don't make me wait so long
Come into my open arms
And turn my poem into song

We Lie Awake

Long time since
I lay awake
wondering
wandering
dreaming

of life and love
and God above

making
things possible
when they couldn't be
hoping
against hope
and destiny

'twas the time
when fantasies
came true
when love
came through

problems came
to nought
worries, forgot

yet, sometimes
melancholy struck
tender strings of the heart
it pluck'd
washing away
the yellows and reds
and leaving behind
the blues

deep within
the brain in a frenzy
of activity
when darkness falls
in a flash
and the raging fire
turns to ash

This, I think, is the first real poem I've ever written. This, (again) I think, is the first time I've written a poem without feeling the 'need' to write one. All my previous poems (if you can call them that) were simply things I needed to tell myself and ended up telling the world. This poem had no real sentimental value, no real meaning to me when I wrote it, but now it probably does. This poem was born from a simple thought which struck me on my way back from work one day, while I was listening to The Escapist from Coldplay's Viva La Vida.

And in the end
We lie awake
And we dream
of making our escape

These simple words reminded me of the time when I used to sleep at human hours. Or rather try to sleep. I used to lie awake in bed for hours at times. And now I miss the thoughts that sprinted through my head then. It's been a good 3 years. Seriously, I really wish to make my sleep count sometimes.

P.S. - For all my 'creativity', I couldn't come up with a title/name for this poem. Rather unimaginatively, I plagiarized Coldplay's lyric, albeit temporarily. Any good suggestions would be welcome and appreciated.

Happy Every Year!

I wish you luck
I wish you health
I wish you love
And emotional wealth

Today may be a special day
To relax, rejoice and smile away
But today is just another day
A few more hours, and it's gone away

My wish for you is here to stay
In bold, italics & and underline
I wish you a Happy Every Year!
But let's start with 2009

:)

*Ok, that was cheesy =P

The Process

Is this all just an illusion
A temporary dream
A candle in a dark forest
A goldfish in a stream?

Will it ever come to fruit
Or perish before it's green
Or will I see the morning light
That from the tunnel I had seen?

Answers to these questions
I think I'll never need
For the process is the joy of life
It is the reason to breathe

Awakening Call

Penned by my dad.

As I saw bullets fly
It pierced my heart and made me cry
As lives were being wasted in front of me
I thought, what is happening to my country

As enemy entered from the bay
Intelligence agencies exposed their decay
As bullets and bombs became order of the day
It was too late to sit up and pray

As politicians sat back and watched the fun
Innocent people were on the run
Dodging bullets fired at them
Trying to get away from the mayhem

Some were lucky, some were not
With bare hands how could they have fought
A child escaped but parents shot
As they could not escape the terrorist's plot

As houses and hotels went up in flames
Those who burnt had claim to fame
They were achievers in the modern world
But were stopped in their steps for no fault of theirs

Those who were shot at CST
Were ordinary people like you and me
But who cared if we lived or died
Who cared if we got burnt or fried

I detest these politicians and bureaucrats
Who nibble at the system like wild rats
And do what they are known to do best
Keep filling their pockets and their chests

Why are we ruled by these imbeciles
Why are we fooled by these slimy eels
Who stick to their seats and pass the blame
For they are used to this and have no shame

Out with them Oh countrymen
Throw them out before they strengthen their den
Throw them so, so very far
That they are never able to return again

God bless my country and my countrymen. Let us wake up and change the course of our destiny. Remember, if we don't, we will have only ourselves to blame. Tomorrow never comes, so, let us do it today.
