Long time since
I lay awake
wondering
wandering
dreaming
of life and love
and God above
making
things possible
when they couldn't be
hoping
against hope
and destiny
'twas the time
when fantasies
came true
when love
came through
problems came
to nought
worries, forgot
yet, sometimes
melancholy struck
tender strings of the heart
it pluck'd
washing away
the yellows and reds
and leaving behind
the blues
deep within
the brain in a frenzy
of activity
when darkness falls
in a flash
and the raging fire
turns to ash

This, I think, is the first real poem I've ever written. This, (again) I think, is the first time I've written a poem without feeling the 'need' to write one. All my previous poems (if you can call them that) were simply things I needed to tell myself and ended up telling the world. This poem had no real sentimental value, no real meaning to me when I wrote it, but now it probably does. This poem was born from a simple thought which struck me on my way back from work one day, while I was listening to The Escapist from Coldplay's Viva La Vida.
And in the end
We lie awake
And we dream
of making our escape
These simple words reminded me of the time when I used to sleep at human hours. Or rather try to sleep. I used to lie awake in bed for hours at times. And now I miss the thoughts that sprinted through my head then. It's been a good 3 years. Seriously, I really wish to make my sleep count sometimes.
P.S. - For all my 'creativity', I couldn't come up with a title/name for this poem. Rather unimaginatively, I plagiarized Coldplay's lyric, albeit temporarily. Any good suggestions would be welcome and appreciated.
